Hallowed Ground
Beneath the city’s hallowed ground,
Lie promises and memories drowned,
Bought from liars by the pound,
Dreams of hounds and kings uncrowned.
Towers overlooked by guards,
Gamblers playing with no cards,
Dancers, acrobats and bards,
Kind regards lie in shards.
Gods’ and jesters’ burial mounds,
Beneath the city’s hallowed grounds,
Lost things never to be found,
Beneath the city’s hallowed ground.
City II
Cables criss-crossing the smog-filled sky
And apartment blocks like the spines
Of concrete dragons
Every lamp seems like the eye of a giant
Sculpting the city into an elder
And terrible thing
Beneath the bustling streets, churning shit
Forgotten rivers of filth and piss
Under our noses
But it hardly seems to matter anymore
Because when I open my eyes
I always forget
